August Scherl Nachfolger

The publishing house "August Scherl Nachfolger" has an interesting history. On October 1, 1883, August Hugo Friedrich Scherl founded a press and book publishing house, which bore the name "August Scherl Verlag" from 1900. The publishing house was known for the Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger, the first German general newspaper, and the illustrated weekly newspaper "Die Woche".

After Scherl's death in 1921, the company was taken over by various owners, including Alfred Hugenberg and later Max Amann. The publishing house published a large number of books and magazines, such as "Filmwelt" and the "Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger".
